The Annual Meeting Abstract Center is now open. The deadline for submitting abstracts is Wednesday, April 14, 2010, 5:00 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).
ASBMR is accepting applications for the Harold M. Frost Young Investigator Award. These awards allow six young investigators to participate in the co-sponsored 40th International Sun Valley Workshop on Musculoskeletal Biology occurring August 1-4, 2010, in Sun Valley, Idaho, USA. This program is intended to stimulate young investigator development and provide them an opportunity to present their research. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, March 24, 2010. ASBMR encourages the participation of young scientists to the biennial International Conference on Osteoimmunology in Fira, Santorini, Greece by offering Young Investigator Travel Awards of $1,000 each to offset a portion of their expenses to participate. Such support is intended to encourage the appropriate and necessary interaction with senior investigators and leaders in the field to help advance the careers of young investigators. The 3rd International Conference on Osteoimmunology will occur June 20-25, 2010.
The deadline for receipt of applications is Monday, March 15, 2010. Meeting information and full travel award details and instructions are available on the ASBMR and the Aegean Conferences web sites.
We mourn the passing of Dr. Greg Mundy, a pillar of our Society, colleague and friend, who passed away February 25, at his home in San Antonio, TX, USA. Dr. Mundy was an internationally renowned investigator in bone biology, pharmacology and cancer whose innovative work helped shape these fields. He will be remembered by many for his personable demeanor to all, his generosity in supporting the needs of our members, and the affection he had for his family, friends and colleagues.
A memorial service honoring Dr. Mundy was held Tuesday, March 9th at Benton Chapel on the campus of Vanderbilt University.
We at ASBMR would like to offer our sincerest sympathy to his wife Helen and children Gavin, Ben and Jennifer. If you would like to share a message of support or fond memory for his family to receive, we have set-up a web page where you may post your memory or condolence.
Effective volunteer leadership is fundamental to the health of the ASBMR. The Nominating Committee is seeking to identify the best candidates to lead our organization. Please consider nominating yourself to fill available leadership opportunities. We need your help in identifying candidates for President-Elect and Councilors to go on this year's ballot, as well as candidates for appointment to all programmatic committees. Young Investigators are encouraged to apply. All nomination materials must be received in the ASBMR Business office by Wednesday, March 17, 2010.

ASBMR is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph Lorenzo, M.D., as Scientific Web Editor. Dr. Lorenzo is currently an ASBMR Council Member and has served the Society in many ways, most recently as Publications Committee Chair. The ASBMR invites you to participate in the 37th European Symposium on Calcified Tissues, in Glasgow, Scotland, June 26-30, 2010. There will be a lively debate, co-sponsored by the ASBMR on the need to develop further drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis. The deadline for pre-registration is Friday, March 19, 2010. The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) is pleased to announce the opening of nominations for the 2010 FASEB Postdoctoral Professional Development and Enrichment Award. A total of six (6) individual awards are available to provide resources to support the development and enrichment of leadership skills and training of postdoctoral fellows or new (within one-year) assistant professors. Each of the six awards will include a $3,000 unrestricted career development award, a certificate in recognition of the award, plus an additional $2,500 travel award to support his/her participation in a national scientific meeting.

NIAMS T32 awards support pre- and postdoctoral research training for individuals in the fields of arthritis, musculoskeletal and skin diseases. The primary goal of the NIAMS T32 program is to prepare individuals to pursue careers in research that will ultimately improve the health of persons with arthritis, musculoskeletal, or skin diseases.
